The Filk Film Project (working title)

In August 2005, Karen Praxel, Darrin Kean and Erin Kean were introduced to
Filk through their friend Teresa Powell, a member of The Three Weird
Sisters, at ConChord in Los Angeles. We three friends came away from the LA
Filk Con feeling that the story of Filk must be told. We were fascinated
and intrigued by the music, intelligence and humor and were compelled to
explore the possibility of creating a respectful and humorous film about
Filk. We attended the Ohio Valley Filk Fest during the following October,
and after talking with several Fen who were excited about the possibility of
a film, we decided to take the next step in pursuing our idea of creating a
Filk documentary.

On this page is a link to a series of questions to which we would welcome
your responses about your experience with Filk, as fen, performers, and Filk
enthusiasts. Feel free to participate to any extent you want. Answer as many
or as few of the questions as you feel compelled. This is one of the first
steps in giving shape to our idea about a movie about the music, the fen,
and the Filk culture. You may answer these questions anonymously, or you
may give us your name and contact information. Your suggestions and input
about the creation of the film are also welcome and appreciated.

Please know that in making this film, our intentions are to respectfully and
humorously capture the Filk experience. We attended GaFilk in January 2006
with cameras and began collecting video interviews of fen and footage of
both performances and 'life at a con'. We anticipate shooting, researching
and collecting data at least through this calendar year. We plan on shooting
at several filk cons, getting some filk at some general Science Fiction cons
and some house sings. The next con we will be attending will be Consonance
in March. We'll see you then!
